The GRC format doesn't work everywhere. At a meeting in the Riviera in 1975, it became evident that you can't have a scientific session after a French dinner - so one was held in the late afternoon.

My first child, a son, was born one week prior to my first invited GRC talk - just in time so that I could attend. His name? Gordon, of course.
- Frederick D. Lewis
My first GRC, in 1982, was during my second year as a graduate student. I boarded the bus with luminaries in my field: Mike Brown, Joe Goldstein, Gil Ashwell, and Dick Anderson. I was star-struck... until the bus stopped at the NH liquor store, where they all piled out to buy copious quantities of alcohol!

The field of molecular clusters was brought together in part by the Molecular and Ionic Clusters GRC established in 1990 with Will Castleman as chair. Its first meeting in Volterra, Italy was superb - complete with great memories of good science, Roman ruins, excellent food, and wonderful camaraderie.
- Timothy Zwier
The GRC certainly helped bring chemists, zoologists, botanists, ecologists, and behaviorists together to better explore the chemical differences of plants and better understand the interactions of plants and herbivores, as well as the relationship patterns between plants and their consumers through evolution.
- Lawrence E. Gilbert
The Metals in Biology GRC had a seminal and catalytic role in the development of the field of bioorganic chemistry. The Metals in Biology GRC provided the initial forum for inorganic chemists to mingle with biologists and biochemists at a time when there was very little prior interaction between those fields.
