Many good times have been had on the porch at the Kimball Union Academy. No one is safe from ridicule and the "gods" in the field are made human again. The friendships struck and the scientific exchanges are like no other meeting - not even close.

The Electrochemistry conferences in the early years (1965-1975) were important because the field was undergoing a renaissance and the younger electrochemists needed a forum.

I have forged many excellent collaborations at the GRCs. These collaborations turn Europeans, who we often see as competitors, into colleagues. The GRC is so important in developing the global scientific community. It is an experience that every young scientist should have.
- Stanley Dunn
Wolfgang Seifert, a very competitive guy, was challenged to hold one leg out while on his hands and knees to "show great strength." There he was for almost thirty minutes looking like a dog marking his territory... it was quite a start in science for a young graduate.
- Cindy Lee
At one memorable GRC, the chair (Richard Slusher) reminded attendees daily that there must be fights at the poster discussions in order for the session to be called a success.
- Olivier Pfister
The GRC on Laser Diagnostics in Combustion provides a unique forum for multidisciplinary interaction. Combustion is an academic component of mechanical engineering, but fundamental studies use significant chemistry and physics. The GRC and its "off the record" policy has enabled candid industrial participation.
