In 1999, I was selected to present in the poster session at the Temperature Stress in Plants GRC. It was a really important moment for me because I presented my data in front of many very important, internationally reputed scientists in the field of low temperature stress in plants. Even today I feel proud of this.

I remember the 1998 Sensory Transduction in Microorganisms conference, when the non-U.S. were nearly all lost at sea while whale-watching... a plot for U.S. domination of the field?

The Meiosis GRCs have literally changed my research program, as well as my way of thinking. The combination of mammalian / non-mammalian participants has also created new collaborative efforts in the meiosis community.

The 2004 GRC on Spirochetes was especially memorable because of the remarkable degree of unpublished research that was presented. I felt this represented the high level of trust that had developed among attendees.

People tell me that Ledoux and I engaged in a tug of war over the microphone while arguing about the meaning of his experiments! (I believe this story, although I don't recall the physical struggle.)

The GRC on Polymer Colloids helped to bring together scientists from a wide range of disciplines, from physics to medicine. This type of interaction helped to improve the mechanism of synthesis method (emulsion polymerization), advance theoretical physics, and also find new applications for polymer colloids.
